Keynote Session: "Planning Backward? Thematic Planning with a Standards Focus"
- Helena Curtain and Carol Ann Dahlberg

The National Standards and the ACTFL K-12 Student Performance Guidelines have helped to focus curriculum planning on performance tasks. In this workshop teachers will revisit thematic planning from the perspective of Standards and Performances, and share ideas for developing and revising their own thematic units.

  The keynote presenters are co-authors of a popular K-8 methods book, Languages and Children: Making the Match, which has just been revised for its third edition. To purchase it, visit the AATG Online Store and click on "New Materials" You will find it near the bottom of the list.

Keynote Session: "Something Worth Saying: Activating Student Language Use in the Target Language Classroom" - Helena Curtain and Carol Ann Dahlberg (see picture above)

Surrounding students with oral and written language is only the first step in building a classroom environment to facilitate communication. This workshop will help teachers to develop meaningful oral and written tasks that encourage student use of the target language for interpersonal and presentational communication.
